Swedish actor Alexander Skarsgård will be the guest of honour at Alþjóðleg kvikmyndahátíð í Reykjavík 2026 (the Reykjavík International Film Festival), RIFF. He will receive this year's festival honorary award for outstanding artistry. Skarsgård will also attend the premiere of Wicker. He stars in the film, which is directed by Alex Huston Fischer and Eleanor Wilson.
Skarsgård is one of Sweden's best-known actors and comes from a prominent acting family. Four of his brothers have made names for themselves as actors, as has, not least, their father Stellan.
A statement says Skarsgård has built a varied career over the past two decades, both in Swedish cinema and internationally.
He began acting as a child in Sweden but achieved international fame in 2008. That year he played Brad "Iceman" Colbert in Generation Kill and took on the role of vampire Eric Northman in the television series True Blood.
Skarsgård won both Emmy and Golden Globe awards for his performance as Perry Wright in Big Little Lies, and also attracted considerable attention as billionaire Lukas Matsson in Succession.

He has also had numerous roles on the big screen. He played one of the leading roles in Lars von Trier's 2011 film Melancholia and took on the role of Tarzan in the 2016 film The Legend of Tarzan.
Skarsgård starred in The Northman, directed by Robert Eggers, who co-wrote the screenplay with Sjón.
"With his strong screen presence and unusual choice of roles, Skarsgård has established himself as one of the most remarkable actors of his generation and is undoubtedly today one of Sweden's best-known, most respected and most versatile actors internationally," a statement from RIFF says.
